Shimano Flight Deck Computer

I have first hand experience of stupidity with this - I was determined to find a simple, one wire cadence computer that could run off the rear wheel so I'd have full functions on the ergo. Smart [censored] here figures that it has to be possible to splice a section of wire into the sensor run to make it long enough to reach the rear wheel. Proceeds to buy a Flightdeck and carefully ..... very carefully .... exposes the wires. They're very fine, almost fibre optic like and I was sure I had managed to successfully splice in a piece of similar but marginally larger wire. Fit to bike and no go ...... consult electrical technician mate who concludes that I upset the (very low) resistance rating of the unit .... goes and buys another fitting kit, fit it up to front wheel and works like it should. You can't view cadence & stop watch simultaneously. Cadence can be displayed as a small or large display and only in conjunction with speed. The stopwatch mode is a small display across the bottom of the unit only and yes, the pace arrow still works because it's display is allied to (shown simultaneously as) the speed display. They are an excellent unit once you become accustomed to what display is where in the control menus (there's two menus - one speed/cadence etc and the other time/stopwatch etc and you switch from one menu to the other by an extended push of the R/H button. The L/H button is only used for zeroing and for stop/start of timer functions)

Also the transmitter doohickey has to be line of site with the receiver/mount doohickey - won't work on the rear wheel.

A point of clarification if possible, you say you can't view stopwatch and cadence "simultaneously", I was wondering, can I switch to speed and cadence display while the stopwatch is running, or do I have to stop the stopwatch before I can use the mode button to view speed and cadence?

Harrow, the stopwatch runs in the background no matter which display you have up (and you can change the display and not affect it - display mode is on the right, stopwatch start/stop and all zeroing is on the left). When you get the hang of it it's a very useful tool for interval training - I do intervals on the same climb using particular road marker posts as the measure and use the stopwatch in conjunction with H/R monitor to measure, in a semi accurate sort of way, your progress and body condition. It's my own really crappy version of an SRM !
