I have never used a 10-speed but plenty of 7, 8, and 9-speed Shimano
cassettes and when correctly assembled there is no play at all.

A 1 mm spacer is required when CS-6600 (except junior type) with a 8/9 speed freehub (FH) and FH-6600. Many think that the CS-6600 works correctly on the FH-6600 without the 1 mm spacer,,,.... so they leave it out. If this is the combination you have, you need the 1 mm spacer.

Make sure the locknut is on straight - sometimes it can be off enough
that the cassette moves around even though you think the nut is tight.
