  1. I have purchased the new Shimano BR-R550 cantis for my Litespeed Blueridge.
The brakes come with two different straddle cables, one of which is slightly
    longer than the other.

My question is - How do I decide which of the two length straddle cables to
use? I am running the bike on hard surface road on Mavic Open Pro rims with
    700x23, or sometimes 700x25 tires.

    Thanks,
    Mish

  2. Setting up old-style cantilevers is an art...I've found this page to be
    immensely helpful:

  3. Do you have straddle cables or link wires? Since you say you have two
different lengths I'm inclined to believe the latter.

I _think_ generally the longer link wire goes in front, but there are a
lot of variables involved. I've found this page very helpful:

It depends on the distance between the studs and the rim
width. Choose the cable which gives you a 90-degree angle
between the wires as the pads touch the rim for 'normal'
    braking.

(Higher or lower angles change the brake's feel and
effectiveness, higher for a stiffer feel, lower for better
    braking)

You are correct, I have link wires.
