Shimano 600 was called....Shimano 600. It later became Shimano 600
Ultegra, which became Shimano Ultegra. It has usually been Shimano's
next-to-the-top-of-the-line road component "group", slotted just below
Dura-Ace. Good stuff.

As for the Raleigh, Google "Raleigh Competition"; lotsa info.

If the reach mech is really simple in finish with a silk screened
logo, it's more early 80s than late 70s. I rode one of those
derailleurs back then when I was a kiddo, on a Peugeot, replacing the
plastic French [censored] that it originally had. It was one of those things
I'd lusted over in the LBS's case and saved up enough to buy. It sure
made that Peugeot shift like the mutt's nuts.

If it fits ya, clean up the bike and ride it. Add a fresh freewheel
and 7/8spd hyperglide chain, and it'll shift like a champ.

Reynolds 531 tubing was considered top of the line for decades. It is
still really good stuff. shimano 600 was second to dura ace in the
shimano line and eventually became ultegra as others mentioned.

I would bet that you have an 80s bike, but would need more info, like
a pic to tell you what it is. They are great stuff and I would ride
one today. You can have a bicycle shop spread the rear end so that you
can accomodate 8,9,10 speed wheels, and/or ride it as is.

If it is in good shape and fits you, it is good [censored].
