[font=Franklin Gothic Medium] I know that Shimano now makes a 10 speed cog, but it appears that they are not going to make 9 speeds anymore. Does this mean that when my 9 speed cog needs to be replaced, I have to go 10 speed?[/font]

I wouldn't worry about it too much. There are plenty of aftermarket manufacturers that make Shimano compatable replacement cassettes. Finding 9 speeds in the future shouldn't be much of a problem, but if you want to stock up a few extras a lot of places are selling 9s 105 parts cheap right now.

Shimano still makes 6, 7 speed MF spin ons,
7, 8, 9 10 speed cassettes,
they will for a long time yet.. 🙂 -
Tiagra and 105 should both be available in 9s still. Ultegra components minus the cassette is compatible, but not specific.

Lotsa stores (mainly online) still selling Ultegra cassettes. Then there is always eBay....
So long as there is a market, they will be sold.
I have 3 road bikes in 9 and 1 in 10. I like the ability to swap wheels out with the 9s depending on training or racing.
