  1. I just replaced both brake/shifter pods with new ones on my Specialized Rockhopper Criterium, 1994 model (approx). The new brake/shifter pods are Shimano V-Brake CI-DECK PLUS. The derailleurs are: front - Shimano ALTUS A20 and rear - Shimano ALTUS A10.

    Also, the rear cluster is composed of 7 gears.

    The problem is this, with the chain on the middle chainring, upshifting from 4'th to 5'th is a problem. The derailleur moves but the chain fails to transfer to the smaller sprocket. Instead I need to upshift to 6'th gear from 4'th and then downshift to 5'th.

    How do I adjust these babies, these indexed shifters? Just an fyi the last time I dealt with bikes was my 1986 Schwinn Cimarron. The components on that model were simpler, much simpler than this new fangled stuff.

    thanks, all.

  2. You'll probably need to fine-tune the cable tension on the rear derailleur. Take a look at this site for info on how to adjust it;

  3. Thanks, Rek. Yeah, that's what I'm told. And the Park Tool website is really a boone to me.

    Also, just an fyi to you all, I readjusted the rear wheel a couple of millimeters in the dropouts (it's a quick release) which solved MY problem.
