I just happened to be looking at a Serrota Colorado C4-Ti bike at a shop which is an older model. It's a 2001 model frame with a current all Ultegra components, Ritchey wheels and bars. Just a couple of question that you Serrota gurus might be able to answer. Since it’s a 2001 frame with current components and the 2001 frame it does have the 1” head tube with the F1 fork instead of the 1-1/8”, F2 fork on the 2004 model. How much do you honestly think this bike is worth? Also how much difference is the 2001 oppose to the 2004 besides the head size being 1” oppose to the 1-1/8” on the newer model and how much better is that? I’m probably going to finalizing this transaction tomorrow.
Hello Speedemon ~ Just my 2 cents, I own a Serotta Legend and can honestly tell you it is the best money I've ever spent. Bought in 97 it now has about 40000 hard mountain miles. Mine has the F1, 1 inch steering tube that has worked just fine. Some of the mountain decents here are down right hairy and the F1 has aways been fine; predictable and firm. I weigh close to 200 lbs. and I have complete confidence in the fork and bike. I think the new Cologna's still use a 1 inch steering tube if that says anything. I recomend a strong consideration. I found myself in a similar situation with a different frame last year. I found a screaming deal on a Merlin Extralight with a 1" headtube. I bought it and am very happy. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the 1" headtube standard and you can still buy most of the best road forks in 1" diameter. The problem, is that the "standard" has changed and long-term they may not always be available. My plan is to stock up on a replacement or two when they get discontinued and heavily discounted. The other alternative which Merlin, and I assume Serrota, can do is to literally weld a new headtube to your frame. This is the kind of service you get with the high-end domestic framebuilders.
