A German cyclist has died after falling off his bike in hospital grounds.
The 37-year-old was found lying on a footpath near Ninewells Hospital in Dundee at about 0100 GMT on Saturday. He later died from head injuries.
It is understood the man had been working at the University of Dundee, based at Ninewells.
His name has not yet been released by Tayside Police but a spokesman said his family had been contacted and would be travelling to Dundee.

Yes, this worried me when I read it yesterday as I know a German man of the right age who lives on the Ninewells grounds (but doesn't work there). The Courier online this morning had more details, which worried me more when they mentioned a Polish wife (the wife of the man I know has a polish name) but the rest of the details didn't fit. (I know, it is very sad whoever it is but more so if you know the person).
The Courier had this quote from the police:
"Police said there are no apparent suspicious circumstances after discovering that he had fallen from a pedal cycle."
Keeping in mind that this is the journalist's interpretation, but I don't like to think that they assume that falling off a bike on a good path and hitting your head hard enough to die is normal.

Without wishing to be goulish, it would of interest to know further details of how this happened if they emerge locally. The circumstances as described sound very odd.

It can be abnormal without being suspicious.
A friend of mine killed a cyclist when he hit them from the side, at a very low speed; the cyclist fell sideways, hit his head and died. There was no damage to the bike.
