Well, as a spin off from the grips thread, i thought that it might be an idea for people to share some techniques/methods/mod for other areas of the mountain bike.
Here are a few i picked up from a guy on a ride a while back on an extremly muddy ride. (Thank you whoever you are!)
Put a cork up the hole in your steerer tube. It will keep the mud etc out. I always get little rust patches up there and once i did this, its one less thing to worry about...and when you want to get it out again, use a cork-screw!
Another involved attaching a triangle of plastic (like off a plastic cordial bottle etc) around the chainstays and the seat tube (use trusty zip ties) to make a sort of mudguard cover over your front derailluer...it stops it from getting clogged with mud etc and prolongs it from stuffing up.(Ill see if i can make one and get pictures up)
The last(..and i think this is a take it or leave it idea) but make like a triangular flag between the arch on your forks...i guess this is ment to act as a mudguard but id say it works better for 'Manitou style' reverse arches.
I appoligise if i have in-advertinly riped off a website but im not to know...
