  1. Same story, second verse...

Tired of running marathons. Have mountain biked my whole life. Am looking to diversify my exercise and riding. I'm looking for a bike that I will use on an indoor trainer, for shorter conditioning rides, and for mid-range triathlons. I don't foresee a lot of centuries in my future. I'm a tall, light fellow, if that makes a difference.

I've done a lot of shopping, and here's what I've liked most so far:

    http://www.feltusa.com/2004_bikes/f70.html

    http://www.feltracing.com/F65.html

    http://www.orbea-usa.com/Bikes.php?id=12

I haven't actually ridden the F70, but I've ridden an F65 and can get them for the same price. The Orbea was really sexy and fun, but I don't know anything about Campy components, and I also wonder about the alloy/carbon blend on the frame. It seems that tacking on a carbon seatstay would weaken the frame. Any thoughts on that? The Felt seemed bullet proof, and I like it's conservative styling. The ride was less responsive, though.

The Orbea also seems to have a slightly shorter top tube. Will that make it more comfortable when I add an aero bar for tris, or is all this moot as it can be addressed by moving the seat forward?

If you could get all 3 of the above bikes for a similar price, which would you be inclined to buy? All impressions would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

PS. Is the Kurt Kinetic really that much better than the Cycleops Fluid2?

  2. Just looking at the links you sent, I'd go for the Orbea hands down. The frame and Campy components are euro-cool, and new '04 Vento G3 wheels ought to be a better wheelset. With the carbon rear stays, the Orbea should ride smoother and quieter than the Felts over course road surfaces.

The carbon stays shouldn't weaken the frame at all. Frame life would depend more on the weight of the tubing, and the workmanship.

Not saying anything is wrong with the Felts, but if the prices are about the same, I'd choose the Orbea.

    Dan
