  1. well if any of ya'll saw my last post i had basically dead legs for the first part of my ride and stuff. well i took about a week and a half off the bike due to sickness and also went on spring break ski trip and went out today and did 21 miles averaging 18.26 mph. i felt really good went through a little bit of dead leg about 6 miles in but it only lasted about half a mile at the most and when i got back in i felt like i could ride another 20 but i had homework. i am eating alot more carbs and staying hydrated and am not sick. it brought my spirits up and made me get back some cofidance that i could do it.

but here is the question i have a race in 3 weeks it is a collegiate race and judging by other collegiate races it will be about 40-50 miles and a pretty slow pace. what should i do riding wise to make shure i don't overtrain but can at least finish it.
here is what i am thinking i was going to do a hard hill ride tomarrow b/c there are usually hills and they kill me and then take 2 days off and then do a easy 20-30 miles and then another day off then do another easy- medium 20-30 miles and then the next week do a distance ride of like 40-50 miles and then a day off then do some intervals then a easy 20 miles then another easy distance ride. then the week of the race i was just going to do 2-3 easy 20-30 mile rides and not do anything hard.

how does this sound to ya'll?

  2. Good to hear the time off helped so much....now you know how much difference recovery makes. Here's my thoughts for the next 3 weeks:

Suggest you rest tomorrow, then go on the 40-50 miler at a moderate pace. Would do another one of these long rides next week, pushing a bit more but not all-out. Include your hills or intervals efforts in these long rides, since that's what you'll be doing in the race. Riding the actual course would be great if you can.

Week of the race, I'd go on just a couple of 20 mile rides, but include some decent hill efforts or intervals late in the ride. The day before the race, just go out and warm up for maybe 20 minutes, put in a few hard interval efforts, then go home and rest with plenty of carbs.

Finish up every ride thinking you could go another 20 miles. You'll feel like you're undertraining, but that's good. The whole idea is to go into the race rested and strong....save your best performance for the race.

Other guys will have different recommendations; it's up to you what you do of course.

  3. well found out today the race is only 38.5 total miles and is a 7.7 mile loop with two moderate hills. so i think my training will be adequet for this race
