seatpost diameter 80's mtb

A mobile-unit repair job requires that I order a seatpost for a cruddy 80's
vintage low-end mtb. The tubing is labelled "diamond 1008" a cheap steel
frame, likely Taiwanese. Unfortunately the model escapes me. 15 speed steel
rims, Raleigh sold in Canada. Difficult to get back to the job site to
measure with known post sizes.

Any educated guesses?

Thanks,
Blake

How about using a small dia. post and carry some shims along with you?

Lewis.

I just measured an 80's Fuji "18-speed" MTB (cheapo), it is 1" (25.4mm).
Yours might be smaller, but I doubt it, I think that's the smallest
common size. I'd get one of those and bring some shim stock. Soda/beer
cans work fine, aluminum flashing works better for thicker shims.
