How about using a small dia. post and carry some shims along with you?

I just measured an 80's Fuji "18-speed" MTB (cheapo), it is 1" (25.4mm).
Yours might be smaller, but I doubt it, I think that's the smallest
common size. I'd get one of those and bring some shim stock. Soda/beer
cans work fine, aluminum flashing works better for thicker shims.
