  1. Dear rec.bicycles.tech:
    Not my ride, fortunately, but last week saw a cyclist on a fixed
    gear who had a seatpost problem. The treads in the collar had stripped,
    so it wouldn't support him. Poor kid had to do the rest of his training
    ride standing on the pedals -- or that was his plan, anyway.
    Would going to the local hardware store and getting a really long
    boltand a nut for the other side work as a temporary/permanent fix?

  2. If it's the right dimensions, of course. That's what I would have done.
    There's a bike 10 feet from my keyboard with such a setup, when I was
    in a pinch. Never bothered to get a allen binder bolt. If you're fancy,
    use a washer too. :P
