I have been contacted by a researcher working for Shona Robison MSP
with regard to a letter I wrote a few weeks back. I strongly
reccommended Bikeability to her and asked whether there were any plans
to bring it North of the Tweed..
The researcher has replied in a positive tone[1], indicating that Ms
Robison MSP will be writing a letter to the health minister to ask
about this. What he wants, however, is a strong case for why
bikeability (www.bikeability.org.uk) should be brough in to replace the
Scottish Cycle Training Scheme
(http://www.srsc.org.uk/education/primary/scottish_cycle_training_scheme.asp)
For an experienced cyclist the differences are obvious - SCTS is a
dusted off and tarted up Cycling Proficiency scheme that has some
on-road training. The materials show a few examples of poor road
positioning, unfortunately those are the 'what to do' diagrams.
Any comments one might like me to include in a detailed response?

Quoted message said:Dear Dr Martin,
I'm about to draft a letter for Shona to send to the Minister regarding
this. Before I do, could you possibly explain for me how Bikeability
differs from the Scottish Cycle Training Scheme [see
http://www.srsc.org.uk/education/primary/scottish_cycle_training_scheme.asp]
and why the adoption of Bikeability or similar would represent an
improvement on what exists already?Any information you could give me which would allow me to frame an
effective and persuasive letter to the Minister regarding this point
would be very much appreciated!Yours sincerely,
