Schwinn + Bottom Bracket

The vast majority of bottom brackets are Shimano with a few other
manufacturers bringing up the rear, so yes, they are fairly standard.

As to being easy to replace you will need a specialized tool for the make of
B.B.. At a year old it should'nt be too hard to remove.

That said, I've my doubts about the problem being the B.B. as modern units
are pretty reliable. Incidentally, I think you probably mean that the
*cranks* aren't turning freely.

I purchased two bicycles with Shimano LP-37 bottom brackets. One was
always stiff - the cranks would only rotate a few turns after being
given a good spin (with the chain removed). The second worked for about
1900 miles, at which point it deteriorated rapidly (fine at the
beginning of a 40 mile ride, grinding at the end of the ride). I could
barely rotate the spindle by hand after removing the cranks.
