Scafell Pike with dog

Boulder fields can be dog-unfriendly in hot, sunny, weather, as the
rocks can get fairly hot. Scafell Pike has boulder fields. (Scafell, not
so much.)

If he's not sure-footed then perhaps the boulder fields might be a
problem, but my recollection is that the ones on Scafell Pike aren't
particularly bad.

If you're ascending from Wasdale via the Corridor Route then you avoid
the most (all?) of the boulder fields. I think ascending via Lingmell
Col is the easiest version (as opposed to Broad Crags Col) or continuing
to Mickledore. There's a bit of trivial exposure where the path crosses
Piers Gill - you probably won't notice it.

I took my Irish Setter Zak up the Pike back in May. It was his first trip to
the Lakes and I had been a somewhat concerned about him being
inexperienced/ungainly/too long legged etc. It was entirely unjustified. He
was like a mountain goat! I'd get to a point where I thought he might be
challenged , i.e. a scrambly bit, I'd look behind at my mate (also a Lakes
virgin) and when I turned back to look at Zak, he'd be up high with this
look on his face as if to say "come on slowcoaches". We'd gone up from
Wasdale as per usual for me, via Hollow Stones/Mickledore. He did need a
shove up the bum to get up the scramble to Mickledore col. From there, the
boulders up to the summit of the Pike are not too bad. We came off via Broad
Crag and Esk Hause. The route down to Broad Crag col was challenging for him
but he coped fine. We then skirted the boulder field past Broad Crag to Esk
Hause. Broad Crag summit is a definite no-go area for a long legged dog. The
boulders are huge and it would be broken leg territory.
We also did Pillar that trip via the High Level traverse. This was a first
for all three of us but as before, Zak proved himself very agile. The only
worrying pit was the scramble up to the summit from the base of Pillar rock.
There's a bit where you have to traverse slightly to the right on polished
rock about two thirds up the scramble. Zak needed encouragement and a pull
on the collar to get him past it but from then on fine.
