  1. i was on Scafell today, whats the history on the christian looking cross with
2 small cairns within it between the 2 summits?
at midday there were only 4 of us on the top looking over to scafell pike
    much busier!
    thanks.

  2. I was told that it was built in the early part of the last century by
members of the Fogies and Retireds Climbing Club. If you follow the
direction of the long arm you will come to the top of the descent to Fox
Tarn. Follow the short arm and you pick up the Green How path. A useful
safety feature in bad weather in the days when maps and compasses were not
    as prevalent as now.

I was on top of Scafell Pike at midday yesterday and can confirm just how
busy it was; didn't stop long!
