I'm looking for a bike that would be adequate for long distances, centuries and light touring. I'm considering the salsa casseroll. If I ever wanted to do loaded touring I would probably solve this problem by just adding a trailer instead of trying to load the bike up any more than necessary. Thoughts or suggestions??

A trailer is not such a good idea for loaded touring. The Salsa Casseroll is made for loaded touring so don't be afraid to load it up. Another favorite for touring bikes is a Surly Long Haul Trucker. That is a horrible name for a bicycle but then so is Salsa Casseroll. Sounds like a recipe. But both bikes are versitle enough for short casual rides all the way up to full loaded touring.
