Nice little doo-dad, but when I'm sprinting for the line in earnest I dare not shift and cause a disruption to my pedaling rhythm. That's (disruption in pedaling action) a much surer way to lose a sprint than being in too low a gear, IMO. Ya gotta know the right gear for the course and distance to the line when the sprint really starts - 300 meters or more, you might get away with a downshift...

I'm not sure i understand why we need an extra button on the drop when all we already have to do is flick out our right index finger anyway. I thought that was the whole point of integrated shifters and brakes. You can already shift from the drops or the hoods.

This is probably more of an admission by Shimano that the shift buttons on the levers are too small and difficult to tell apart from one another in the heat of the moment.
