  1. The sorry confession of allowing work to impinge upon a ride....
This tale is in 2 parts. I offer no apologies for Part 1 - it's just the way it is. My apologies to the World are for Part 2, whereby I indicate just what sort of a sorry b##tard I have become...
    Part 1
I start work at 5am and don't usually finish until around 7pm and I work 7 days a week. As I don't get to see much sunlight (which is pretty sad considering I work in Borneo where there's sunshine every day), whenever I get a chance to wag the office and go for a ride on my Fixie, I take it.
Last week my manager was over on Labuan Island, so I snuck out at about 6pm to go for a ride. I was out riding to the Miri River mouth when he called me on my handphone (we're required to be available 24hrs/ day). Straight road going past the Golf Club and I'm sitting up saying "Yup" to everything he says.
His conversation is that of a random-thought generator and I don't notice the ride drifting along. I'm in the middle of a series of "Yup's" when I see the gate across the road in front of me. Riding the Fixie I start hauling back on the pedals while I'm still sitting up uttering the compulsory "Yup's". I've rubbed off enough speed to set up for a U'ey, and start to bend down to grab the bars when I notice the patch of sand on the road. Leaned over and not yet in contact with the handlebars, down I go. No problem - I've hit the road / track many times before, and nothing's damaged this time. No apologies for this sequence, but....
    Part 2
Random-Thought-Generator is still talking on the phone and I'm....lying on the road still going "Yup". I think I even got in 1 "Yup" on the way down. I apologise to the greater World for being such a sorry b##tard that I even waited for a gap in RTG's speech before unclipping my feet from the pedals.
    I'm sorry, alright???
