It seems to me I heard somewhere that gary wrote in article

only recently do i regulaly run.
My father has had a double hip replacement & i'm wondering if this is
hereditory & wether i am doing damage by playing the sports i love.
It depends on too many things to give you a reasonable answer. Were his
hip problems from osteoarthritis (wear and tear), rheumatoid arthritis
(autoimmune disease the eventually erodes bone), or precipitated by a
previous accident, perhaps early in his life? Both osteo- and
rheumatoid arthritis may have a hereditary component, but I doubt it's
the only factor involved.
Truth in advertising: I have no medical training; my wife and I both
have osteoarthritis, and she has had a joint replacement. I have read a
fair amount at layman's level about the many varieties of arthritis.
Quoted message said:I've been told running & the like is beneficial to preventing arthritic pain
etc!
Physical activity seems to be recommended to maintain range of motion;
this also may help reduce the level of pain.

aching.
I take cod liver oil & glucosamine, any help would be appreciated. Do the
positives outweigh the negatives, i want to be supple & fit in my latter
years, not a cripple or having gone through the same things as my father!
Glucosamine is gaining credibility as a useful supplement for
osteoarthritis; there is little evidence that it is helpful for the
inflammatory arthritises. I have been taking glucosamine for about two
years, and it has helped me with a knee that threatened to keep me from
running, but some users get no help at all from it.
This site is by an arthritis sufferer who has studied and used
glucosamine for several years; he covers most of the pertinent
information from a layman's standpoint.
