  1. Every triathlete knows that running and cycling is very different disciplines. One of my friends’ marathoners told me in confidence that he can run at speed of 20 km/h for more than 2 hours, but he can ride bike with this speed for only 10 minutes. Now, I am going to explain difference between riding and running.
    Principal differences between two lest disciplines of triathlon you can see comparing results of two Conconi tests of athlete – one in running, another in cycling. Example of such study presented below: Image in Running for cycling
    Two tests were held for two days, another exercises in this period were excluded. Cycling test was conducted with cycling ergometer «Monark», running one on treadmill «Viasys». Testing protocols have some differences in starting intensity and step increasing. But main idea of what I want to tell still evident. You can see that HR/power ratio is similar in both cases. It is specialty of this occurrence. It just means that cycling for this athlete is more usual than running, because first one recruit smaller volume of muscles for work with given intensity, and similar HR indicates that cycling work provided by higher contribution of aerobic energy pathways. In spite of this tend anaerobic thresholds points are quite different. It’s all because volume of working muscles and capacity of functional systems are different. However, the same is threshold reaction of working muscles on acidosis. Now I want to ask you – what will you get from trainings in running and cycling with using AT intensity? First of all, you will improve your ability to resist acidosis in muscles that provide work in a specific form of exercise. But, will capacity of cardiorespiratory system during work on AT intensity in cycling and running be same? Of course not! Cardiorespiratory reaction on cycling will be lover, and its main reason of using running in cyclists training. When you train your effective aerobic power on bike, your cardiorespiratory system works not on the maximal effective aerobic capacity, and does not received necessary load. You need run performance with AT intensity for improving maximal working effectiveness of cardiorespiratory system. It one of ways witch increase your working efficiency for best results in competitions.
