Dear Group,
I would be interested in the experiences of those runners, especially
marathoners, who have had surgery to remove or partially remove a lung.
Thank you and best wishes for the New Year...

I don't know about runners but my ex-wife had an uncle who was a deputy sheriff
that had a lung removed due to cancer when he was probably in his 50's. He got
along great. Best of luck to you.
It hurts like hell.................was there anything else you needed to
know?
I lost a lot of lung function for a year after a chest-crushing
automobile accident two years ago. When started running
two months afterwards I would start breathing hard at two
minute per mile slower pace than before the accident.
It was frustrating to be back-of-the-pack rather than mid-pack
as before. It was stuck at that level for about eight months
then came back to the previous level. I dont know
if it was bad parts healing, or other parts taking over.
Probably both parts healing and compensation Rick. However, you were
not missing a whole lung were your? And that's a different question.
How much capacity does one lose running with only one lung?
