  1. The shifter won't shift, up or down, at times. When it fails to shift, it feels like it almost
engages and then slips on through. I'd like to try and repair it before replacement...

    TIA,

Have you replaced the cables and the cable housings? If it's RSX 7, and = they're the original
housings, it's time for them to go. It could be = something as simple as the cable is binding in the
    housing. =20

When you route the new cable back to the der, check the plastic cable = guide under the bottom
bracket. Is it clean, in good shape? If not, = swap that out too.

If that doesn't help, move to the STI lever., Does it need oil? How = does it operate without a
    cable in it?

  3. John,

Thanks for the reply and sorry for my slow reply...

I've replaced the cables/housings when the group was installed about 18 mos. ago...I re-checked
cable movement and all is proper there.

The cables run along the top tube so BB not an issue in this case.

Following your suggestion the shifter still skips without a cable installed, but shifted many times
ok with just a slight (hand pressure) pull on the cable. It also doesn't favor any pattern and fails
on any upshift or downshift gear selection.

I've already tried lubricating. I think I'll tear down an older 8S Ultegra shifter and stare
    and compare.

    Thanks,

    brad/tx
