We just finished watching the Count of Monte Cristo on DVD and what
was the first recipe that caught my eye? I haven't thought about them
in years!
Monte Cristo Sandwich
Categories : Sandwiches Special Recipe
Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
6 slices turkey breast slices -- cooked
6 slices Swiss cheese slices -- thinly sliced
6 slices ham -- extra lean
12 slices bread
For Batter:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/3 cups water
1 large egg
vegetable oil -- for frying
powdered sugar -- for dusting
Place slice each of turkey, cheese, then ham on 6 slices of bread.
Use a good bread that is not too thin. Top with remaining bread
slices; cut into quarters; hold together with toothpicks.
Mix batter ingredients. Dip sandwiches into batter mixture and fry in
hot oil until golden brown. Remove toothpicks and sprinkle with
powdered sugar.
Recipe: Batter: Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Add
water to egg and slightly beat. Add egg mixture to flour mixture and
beat until smooth.
Serve with fresh fruit such as melon balls, grapes and pineapple
chunks for an authentic Monte Cristo sandwich.
