  1. The mighty Susquehanna River takes JAR to the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland
    and Susquehanna State Park.

This was my first time riding these trails although I know this area
well. This is a beautiful park with very steep hills and wonderful
views of the river. There are also some historic landmarks as well,
like this Grist Mill along the rail trail by the river.

There are three trails that shoot up from the parking lot. Yes, I did
say up. It's interesting that the creators of these trails decided to
avoid switchbacks and choose waterbars instead. This makes for an
interesting and technical uphill. The trails going up are steep and I
counted no less that 40 waterbars. So, along with the heart popping
climb you have to worry about getting over the bars. On the first trail
there wasn't much reward for the climbing for quite sometime. Once we
reached the top of the woods we came upon some nice fields and a view of
the valley we climbed out of.

There are lots of little offshoots and we took a few. Most of the
wooded singletrack was smooth with occasional granite rocks strewn
about. Of course, there were the ever present waterbars.

I also learned to stay away from the nettle bushes. Nasty little
[censored]! The second to last descent we took was amazing. Flying down
the wooded singlestrack and over the water bars was a rush. Not to
mention the well placed speed humps that gave seconds of airtime!

A great day, but then every time I ride it's a great day!

Nice area up there in North East....Did a Tri up there this year and
swam in the Susquehanna. I recall it being very hilly.

    Peace,
