  1. .......disappeared.

It had been one of those weeks at work with nothing but stress and not
enough hours in the day. I hadn't managed to fit any type of workout in all
week and by Friday I was climbing the walls. I split from work a little
early, came home and grabbed the bike and dashed off to the local trail. I
started out in a bit of a hurry. I wanted to go ride, but had relatives
visiting and kid duties to attend to in the evening.

Once I hit the trail I left it all behind. Without even trying, I was able
to focus on nothing but the ride. After the first two miles, I was totally
unconcious of the bike. It was just lungs, legs, hands, and the trail. The
bike just completely disappeared under me. The trail itself wasn't
difficult, but it's twisty and rooty and had a few mudholes left from the
last rain. I found myself gliding over bumps, hitting lines through the
root infested corners, totally aware of the trail without having to think
about it. I was turning corners with little more than a lean and the flick
of my knee. The shifters seemed to be operating almost of their own accord.
I was completely attuned to the ride and wholly unconcious of it at the same
    time.

It was a good ride. I wish every ride could be like that.

That's what is referred to as "The Zone."

    [snip excellent RR]

That feeling is so rare for me. But when it happens, life is grand.
Makes you want to ride more, just to recapture it. Mmmm, that gives
    me an idea...

    So true...

Reading Tom's RR I was reliving my ride last Friday. Leaping, rolling
over football sized rocks and throwing the 48 lb rig at will. And just
at the apex of my orgasmic DH fest... *wham* I'm laying face first into
a boulder suck into the side of the trail. Full throttle down the
rockiest part only to be taken out by a 3" rut on a loose corner.

Ahhh, my first face plant on the new bike... now, we've truly bonded.
    Till death do us part!

Can't wait for the next ride :-)
