Write this down. 41 is not a good number! After looking at the
satellite images, I decided that the rain would not hit Fair Hills, MD
today. Off to the JAR ride with the Racer-X. It was so tuned last
week, I figured I'd get another good ride today. I reach the parking
lot and the sun comes out! It warms up quick and the others arrive. We
head out on some fantastic singletrack in perfect condition. We are
moving fast as Steve from the Deleware Trail Spinners (the ones who take
care of these trails) leads the way. We stop to regroup and head on
again. At 2.5 miles I have the most severe chain suck I have ever
encountered. Look down and it's wrapped backwards around the middle
ring. Dan helps me untangle it only to find that I have bent the middle
ring beyond repair. Arrrggghhh!!! I was enjoying the ride, too! I
bend it out as much as I can and get the chain on the big ring. It's
still rubbing bad, but I ride it back out to the car. It's now at the
LBS until Wednesday. I would have fixed it myself, but the ring wasn't
in stock. It turns out that two of the four bolts holding it in place
were missing. I never check those darn things before a ride, I guess
now I will.
Next Sunday is Jim Thorpe, so I'll be using the Ellsworthless ID anyway
(need the extra travel there). I'm stopping at Walmart in Philly during
the week to get my fishing license. There's some good FISHING trails in
JT! 🙂
