  1. A couple of weeks ago I posted some pics from my Cannell Plunge Ride. On that same trip we stopped
and camped at a beautiful coastal campground on the South Shore of Morro Bay called Montana Del Oro.

There are some really tame trails there such as the Bluff trail which I took my wife and daughter
on. It has some cool bridges, ogresguide.comMontanaDelOro

great views of the coast, ogresguide.comMontanaDelOro

and lots of beautiful scenery. ogresguide.comMontanaDelOro

After riding with Char and Sylvia for a couple of hours in the morning I hit some more advanced
trails. I started out going up a nice fireroad climb through a canyon:

and then hit a brutal singletrack uphill called the East Boundry Trail fortunately the scenery was
incredible so while I was trying to catch my breath I snapped this photo of the trail:

At the top of the climb I found the locals have a unique approach to trail maintanence:
ogresguide.comMontanaDelOro It was very affective for
about 20 yards in either direction.

I cruised through some singletrack which demonstrates why the spaniards call this place Montana Del
Oro "The Mountain of Gold": ogresguide.comMontanaDelOro

Then I did some more serious climbing (Looking Back):

I paused briefly at the top to savor the upcoming downhill blast:

Then I started my downhill attack. I aced the steep section at the top and was flying down the
hill... whoops I didn't see that bump... hey I'm airborn! ... I think I can save this... I wonder
where the local hospital is... Crash, flip, crunch.... Ouch!

Fortunately I got away with scrapes and bruises only, but in that brief time before contact I was
utterly conviced this would the first time I wouldn't be able to tell my wife "Nothing Broken, Torn,
or Dislocated". Checked out the bike, everthing looks good. I got back on the bike on my wobbly legs
    and started rolling again.

Unfortunately the rest of the downhill was [censored]. There were beautiful views, but the trail was
rutted like the fifth cavalry had just come through, and the sand traps looked like they belonged in
    the US open.

Oh well, great day over all, just the ending was bad. At least the views were great:

    Nice stuff.

I have fond memories o' the mountain o' gold. It would be nice if that downhill finish were a bit
    less chewed.

Next time I'll try a different way out, prolly back out the way I came
in. Enough nice trails out there where you can avoid the chewed up stuff.
