The original plan for Sunday was to go paddle rafting in Montana, which is a
very good thing to do when it's in the high 90's but we had to bag. So, that
means Penny wants to ride her bike. Mr. Adventure's shoulder is not well, so
I'm on my own. Fortunately I connect up with my friend Durt Girl who has a
much of a need to get out on the trail as I. She suggests Farragut State
park north of Coeur d'Alene. Sure! My one other riding experience there was
less than stellar, one of those, I know there have to be trails around here
somewhere experiences.
Sure nuff, she knows her way around here. There's the usual crappy map, but
she's done the loops before and is a good tour guide. The first set of
trails takes us into deep, dark cool forest. The trail is very twisty, so
you don't go real fast on it but it feels great to be riding in the deep
dark forest cover. Eventually we come out on the shoreline trail. This
trail is more technical in spot due to two factors;
1. more rocks
2. hikers, tourists and foofoo dogs.
The shoreline trail sees a lot of foot traffic from the boat launch so we
just tool along carefully. It's hard to keep your eyes on the trail when
Buttonhook Bay is full of beautiful large sailboats. Also, the occasion
mega-babyhead rock garden gets your attention. My only wish is that I rode
here more often, so I could get used to the lines through the rocks.
14 miles later, we've got two happy girls having lunch in the parking lot,
and then back into the 103 degree heat in town.
