  1. What a 'orrible day. I woke up to 25 degrees and 100% humidity. In
fact, I spent most of the night awake in bed -- not stressing about
getting to sleep like usual, since that usually results in you staying
awake -- nope, just too 'orrible to sleep.

And the Melb rain radar movie showed, and still shows, 7 hours later,
a very dense rain band moving parallel to its um... direction... So
the formation basically stays covering the same part of south west
port phillip bay, permanently. When I left, the rain was due to miss
me by a few km, and indeed, I got barely wet, except for the fog on my
    glasses.

Met the usual suspects, with most of us turning up inexplicably 15
minutes early -- probably all had the same sleeping troubles I did.

I had had a rest week -- I felt [censored] after Sunday (you know, I put a
lot of effort into that beach visit, while silly people were off
climbing alpine regions!), had cramps til the middle of the week, and
then started feeling fine after Wednesday. Lots of eat, lots of rest.
So I was feeling quite well, and up the Kangaroo ground climb, spent
the first half holding onto Gag's wheel, until he blew up, then sort
of shared with Ashley (he did most of the work, so I overtook him just
this side of the final hill, the [censored] that I am). And ended up
beating my PB by 55 seconds -- 13:08. The lama claims that's not a PB
if you are drafting someone, but I claim its all phsycological when
you are going up a hill, unless you are playing lama style silly
buggers, and averaging on 30 -- that's when the handy wind break in
front of you does some work.

Overall, I also got a PB in terms of average speed. 29.08km/h --
usually I seem to be getting 26 or 27 (um, come to think of it, this
is BC1600 values of "average" -- dunno what the real one was). So
proof that [censored] weather makes you better.

Topped the day off by going to work, hoping for shower and air
conditioner, but found that in my process of emptying my wallet (got
to save 200gms!), I didn't include my access card (or keys to my room,
for that matter) in the pile to take with me. Home, boring home then.

Hey Derek, got that link to your sunglasses?

  2. I'd say we had a fairly large group today, i think about 10 of us, after Con's ITT effort to meet us at smiths gully bakery. It could be Blah had a better offer from Bouygues Telecom.

TimC had definately been doing something right during the week - secret training or something perhaps. I fell off his wheel a lot closer to the start of the climb, could have been Jazmo's wheel that carried him toward the finish. I came close to catching Gags up the last climb of K/Ground, but I didnt have enough left. Could hardly respond as Ess came up to pass me also.

I got a nice tow from Jazmo through to the start of Clintons Rd, where derek took off like a rocket, i hung with Gags and Jazmo for a bit but after almost throwing up decided to just sit back and take things easy. I think they must have eased up or slowed a little to keep an eye on me (Thanks guys!) I repaid them by suddenly feeling better and riding harder, right past them and onto the Bakery. Oh well..sorry guys

I hung back a bit waiting for Ess as we left the bakery, and missed the train, and then managed to get dropped by Ess also. I managed to keep a visual of the rest of the pack for most of the ride, and came in sprinting up the hill just in time to arrive behind DaveB.

The rest of the ride was fairly standard. By the time I got to kew boulie i felt good, and rode that fairly comfortably, besides the odd (one!) occassion of not understanding how gears work. 😉

Overall summary would conclude that my ride was definately better than the weather, but at times i had to wonder by how much 🙂

    Ash
