  1. Literally.

Sunday I got out for a ride in the local Patapsco State Park (Maryland) and
    was cruising
along a river section. The temps were in the mid-60's and the wind was
    blowing about15kts. This section
has some small stream crossings and the trails cut across the hills dropping
    through the stream
crossings periodically. It's a sweet little ride and I NEVER see any other
    MTB's. Just horses.

Up ahead I hear a HUGE crack and a crash. A huge old oak snapped about 15
    feet up at
a fork. She came crashing down across the trail. That tree was about 5 feet
    around at the trunk.

I sat there staring at it for about 10 minutes just taking it all in.

I can see the obit now....... Retired Marine, vet of many overseas
    excursions dies after having
a tree fall on him during a bike ride................. I hate to say it but
    my friends would have laughed
    their asses off.

  2. Trees on crack in Maryland, eh Gunny? Hey, my bud Hemo The Magnificent
lives near Patapsco now and if you happen to see him on the trails
terre, give him a shout out. He rides an orange Klein Palomino (aka
the Palahemo) and will probably be bleeding from a crash or two...

I would have needed spare shorts at that point I think.

Gunny, huh. I knew a guy who went by that in MD - used to climb with him.

Hey, Marty that's cool, glad you had a chance to see something like
    that and not get hurt!

I'm shocked that I haven't witnessed anything like that. It seems
every day I go back there another Ent has fallen....AND I NEVER SEE IT
    HAPPEN! :-(

    Peace,
    Bill
