  1. Hi all. I want to cycle from Dibden Purlieu to Lymington. The sustrans
route goes to Brockenhurst then you have to find your own way from
there. It is a very roundabout route and I'm trying to keep the milage
down as I'm cyling from Chichester to Freshwater on the IOW. Is there
a more direct route that is safe to cycle on, ie throught Beaulieu and
    Boldre. Thanks in advance.

Most of the forest roads are actually fine for cycling, IME, but you
need to be careful around Beaulieu itself due to an infestation of
    Clarksonitis centred on the museum.

Why not cross from Portsmouth to the IoW then ride across the Island
to Freshwater? That should be shorter and mean less traffic.

My experience of both cycling and driving in the New Forest was that
drivers were careful, and stuck to the (40mph?) speed limits. I assume
this is because of the ponies which no one wants to hit.
