Rough Haw & Sharp Haw
Parked on the side of the road within the small hamlet (?) of Flasby at
SD 94722 56610. Headed in a generally east direction towards Flasby
Fell having to cross a small stream at SD 95574 56277. The path, well
used, doesn't appear to follow the path as marked on the o/s map
(backed up by GPS track!). When within 0.5km of Rough Haw headed
directly towards the summit at a bearing of 90degrees. This was the
must fun, relatively steep with rocky outcrops. The summit of Rough
Haw has a small cairn and a shelter build into the hillside. The
summit and trig point of Sharp Haw was easily visible from Rough Haw.
A direct route was taken between the two summits. At the lowest point
between the two summits it was a very wet underfoot (by the way). The
views from both summits were excellent.
A very pleasant walk, one I'd recommend and will definitely re-visit.
The area reminded me of Dartmoor (High Willhays) or Cornwall (Brown
[censored]) except the granite is replaced with
millstone grit.
Weather conditions ~ High cloud, very sunny, light winds.
Temperature ~ 6-8C
Distance ~5.2k
Ascent ~320m
