  1. Has anyone ever used these or known someone whose has used them? Do they
    really work as well as the company claims? If so, how com more top riders
    don't use them? Any info or feedback would be much appreciated. See the link

    Looks like a complicated way to do the same thing that Biopace was supposed
    to do.

    Looks like a complicated way to do the same thing that Biopace was supposed
    to do.

    No, Rotor is different from biopace. Biopace still had the cranks fixed
    at 180° from each other; it just changed the radius of the chain ring at
    various points around its circumference to change the leverage. Rotor
    cranks have a mechanism which speeds up the crank on its upstroke, so
    that when one crank is at BDC, the other one has already passed TDC and
    is starting down. That way there is never a point when you don't have a
    crank at some point in a power stroke.

    Looking at it from an energy and power point of view, it should make it
    possible increase the maximum power you can put into your pedaling
    because you spend relatively more time on the downstroke and less on the
    upstroke, possibly improving your sprinting or short climbing ability.
    However, it won't increase the capacity of your aerobic system, so your
    long term power output won't change significantly. Thus your ability on
    long climbs or TT's won't change unless your training improves as well.
    In fact, the extra weight will probably hurt you on long climbs.
