I am looking for a good bike store in central Rome, which could pack up two bikes for a return flight to the USA in August. Anyone know bike stores by name in Rome? Thanks.

The most reputable (and probably the most expensive) is Lazzaretti, in Piazza Fiume. Arguably the most well-stocked shop in the city. They also speak some English.
If you are towards Ostia Lido (the beach, right outside of Rome) I heartily recommend Cicli Petta, viale delle repubbliche marinare. You can google the Petta - I think it is www.cicli.it
Only thing you should check is whether the shops are open when you need them to. We Italians take our vacations very seriously, and many shops tend to be closed for the entire month of August!
If you need more info send me a private message.
Ciao and enjoy il Bel Paese!

We bought some spares there a few weeks ago when we were in Rome. Nice shop! Ostia is also quite convenient if you're flying out from Fiumicino since the taxi trip with boxed bikes would be shorter than from central Rome.
