Rolf Vector Comp - rear - bearing replacement

  1. I have set of Rolf Vector Comp wheels and both wheels need
    to have bearings replaced.

    The front one does not seem to be a problem, as I am able to
    remove both the cartridge bearings from the hub.

    However, for the rear wheel there are two cartridge bearing
    that I can remove but I can not figure out how to remove the
    third that is located inside the cassette body.

    Does this bearing actually come out? or is it a part of
    the cassette?

    If the bearing does not come out, is it possible to buy a
    replacement cassette for this hub or is it going to be
    impossible to find this part?

    The wheel is still ridable, however the shifting is really
    bad because the cassette is so loose due to this one bearing
    being shot. It would be a shame to have junk the wheel over
    this. The wheels came with my bike I bought new in 2000, the
    rear one has 20 spokes and the front has 18.

    If there was no way to fix the Rolf hub, I would like to
    save the rim, however I do not think I get a 20 spoke hub.

    Suggestion? Thanks for any input anyone can provide.

    The bearing in the cassette mechanism isn't replaceable
    (not to say it's impossible to do, but it's not made to
    be); when it goes, you replace the mechanism (which is
    available, for about $35, and generally, by the time that
    bearing's gone, the guts of the mechanism probably aren't
    in the greatest shape anyway). Any
    TREK/Fisher/Lemond/Klein dealer can order it for you, if
    they don't already have it in stock. It removes and
    installs with a mondo-sized allen that you'd never use for
    anything else (so I'd bring in the disassembled wheel and
    let the shop quickly do that for you).
