Road levers for hub brakes?

Bruce: I would advise you to think again about a drum brake for the
front. My experience is that those have a woefully casual attitude to
getting you stopped, unless your bike will have a 20 inch or smaller
front wheel. In addition to low braking force, drums also fade rather
badly on steep hills or if you or your payload is heavy.

On the rear they are fine, if somewhat heavy and prone to lockup.

Disc brakes (also hub brakes) work far better, even in the wet or dirt,
and are cheaper. Avid makes a cable-operated one that is compatible
with road levers.
