    Well, chamois cream is quite good for critical areas . . . 😉

    dribble a *little* bit of oil on your chain once a week, or twice if it's wet.

    a drop of oil on the derailleur and brake pivots doesn't hurt once a month. Unhook your derailleur cable housings and smear some oil on the inners. You should then have a smooth bike. (BTW, to do this, you need to change into the big cog/ring, and then shift all the way up/down without pedalling. You can pull the cables out of their stops (if slotted) then)
