  1. I bought some fibrax replacement break pads, but didn't read the small
    print. It says they're for alloy rims. Now, I've tried google, but can't
    find if my rims are alloy or not. They feel lighter than the wheels on my
    other bike.
    Perhaps someone here knows what Mavic T224s are made of? And if not alloy,
    what would be the consequences of using the wrong pads?

    They'll be alloy, as in aluminium alloy.

    Inferior braking, possibly. There are special pads for ceramic coated
    rims and steel rims, but ordinary pads can also work with steel, at least.
    Shiny silver-coloured metal won't be ceramic.

    Use a magnet to test for steel. If it sticks it's steel. (Lack of
    noticeable attraction doesn't necessarily mean a metal is not steel, by
    the way).

    Steel rims are fortunately now rare. Fundamentally, it's not a problem
    with _your_ brake pads; no brakes work at all well with steel rims in
    the wet. If a magnet sticks to your rim, it's steel. Likewise, if
    there's any rust on it, it's steel. But it's very unlikely unless your
    bike was very cheap and nasty or unless it's more than ten years old.

    I don't believe Mavic have ever sold a steel rim. Certainly, a T224 is
    aluminium.
