I have XM117 rims on my stumpy FSR. It has disc hubs and is laced properly for discs. Yet they aren't "XM117 disc" rims. Does the presence of "disc" in the model number indicate it simply has no braking surfaces? Does the lack thereof indicate it is not suitable for discs, despite the wheelset having appropriate hubs and 4-parallel spoke patterns? I'm guessing specialized wouldn't have put disc hubs on rims not suited for discs, but I want to be sure.
Also, where can I find the max rotor size for my black elite fork? Answer's site was of no help. Want to put the largest avid mech's on that won't tear the bike apart.
You can use non disc rims for disc brakes, supposedly they are not made to handle the forces that disc brakes put on rims but I haven't had any problems with my Mavic 521's.

6" max for single-crown QR forks according all fork manufacturers. -- Slacker
