It took some "guts" for sure...I respect him for coming out like this!

Before reading look at this...
I remember watching this stage and thinking "what the Hell!"

Then in ***** Voets book, 'Breaking the Chain" he says his team, Festina, was all jacked to 54% and they wondered what Riis was at to be able to toy with the pack like that!

I am very greatfull that he made a full confession "Idoped from 93to 98 continously" not one of the I didn´t inhale confessions that a lot of riders are on today. I also thinks that it makes him more credible as a current team leader. I so hope that the talk today about clean riding on CSC and T-Mobile is sincere.

I repect Riis too... But I highly doubt that pro cycling will clean up to any great degree.

As long as millions are on the line doping will continue. It is just too easy to micro dose epo and not get caught unless you are careless like Heras. And then there is stuff that can't be tested for like HGH amnd a host of other drugs.
The only reason Basso, Ullirch and compnay got caught in Spain with their own frozen blood in the docs freezer is because someone "blew the whistle".
(You can freeze red cells for years bro's...and then re-infuse just before a race and throughout a grand tour.)

I think you´re right that doping will continue, allthough I think the trend is going the right way, away from rampant use in the 90´s. Rasmus Damsgaard who is a Danish independent anaesthesiologist (like myself) is now monitoring the CSC rdiers with a lot of out of season and in season blood tests. I think his pedigree is indisputable and I think that makes it next to impossible to transfuse without the jump in hematocrit being noticed, so although the rider might still microinject they still need to keep theri crits constant within a reasonable level, as I recall his data showed all but two of the teams riders with "normal" crits < .44 - I think with doping we might propably have to be happy if we limit the cheating to smallscale performance enhancing rather than the rocketboys of past years?!
