Riding Alpe D'Huez

Hi,
Drove from London to Bourg D'Osians and stayed at hotel Milano. They are very helpful and you can store your bike in their garage. They don;t speak much english so polish up on your Franglais.

Rode it (mostly) on a 39-25. COuld have probably done with some more gears and wil probably use a compact next year.

It's a tough climb but worth it. Also the Croix de f, Gallibier, Telegraphe, Deux Alpes are all in easy riding distance, Gallibier is a beast, there is no two ways about it!!

Ah, Toast Boy! In addition to your gears we need to know about your legs!😄 How many miles do you ride a month/year? If you are a mortal like most of us, then we can believe that we might manage the Alpe too!:o But if you are a cycling god, then we might as well put our feet up and watch the Tour on telly instead!🙁

would my lazy american a$$ be able to tackle it after training for a few months or do i have to be a 21yo anorexic pro to do it?

Being a 56 year old rider from the plains, AdHz was no picnic, but I managed OK on 36/28. The start is daunting because it comes as a shock, but the gradient is steady all the way and I took an hour and a half with a couple of stops. Why not the views are great! That was the day before Lance and Jan did it last year - so coming down took even longer with the crowds.
Flew to Geneva and stayed at Bourg d'Oisins. Easy.
