Well, what could have been a nice ride report, went BANG.
17 miles from starting out on the tandem, all going along nice and
sweetly, then BANG. Rear blowout. Thought it might have been a small
hole that my tyre patch (old piece of folding tyre with beads cut off)
would have fixed, but a split in the entral tread and canvas 4" long.
It also had the disadvantage of going BANG so well at that point of the
wheel revolution that it shattered the Esge mudguard in half (between
the bridge at the brakes and the bottom bracket.
No shops open in the village we were at, 7 mile to anywhere which might
have had a bike shop or Halfords open, so opted to sed Bev home to
collect the van.
No complaints with the tyre really, done a few thousand miles and still
had plenty of rubber left, though it was getting thin. Just didn't
expect it to have gone at that point. (tyres always kept up to pressure
to avoid to much sidewall flex and chaffing). Tyre had only had one
puncture in it's life.
