reason it's perfectly acceptable for a coal-fired electricity generation station to pollute

is that the vast majority of people are willing to live with such pollution. If you don't like it,
I suggest you move somewhere sufficiently isolated to the degree that there isn't any air
pollution.
Or move to Holland--or Berlin or Copenhagen, etc---where, besides being a fully modern industrial
civilization, they got bicycles lanes all over the place.
Actually, I think Holland is indeed fully modern while America hangs on to her 19th century
capitalism (Perot's words).
