I not very up on steel frames, can anyone tell me where 520 cromoly fits in, ie middle of the road? What are the advantages over aluminum if any? I’m looking for a bike for my wife, who is new to the sport, and I want a decent, comfortable bike for her. Here are the rest of the specs:

It's generic cromo.There is some that's worse. There is lots better,and better means lighter. In this price range,aluminum may not be lighter,and the 520 might ride better.It's good bang for the buck.Make sure it fits.The TT is long for the size.
Okay, it's down to two bikes: The Jamis Coda Sport with 520 cromoly, or the Specialized Sirrus entry-level model with an aluminum frame.
I have a 1988 Specialized Hardrock that is still going strong. I'm very fond of their bikes. However, the Jamis appears to have great components for the price, and I love the local dealer (Wooley's Bikeland in North Fort Myers, Fla.).
Could someone please let me know if, and why, they might prefer one over the other?

Buy the one that fits best.If that's a wash go for the color that matches your eyes. A good dealer is also a +.
Ride both bikes, then buy the one you think rides best. Just b/c someone else might prefer one over the other, that doesn't mean you will. You'll be happy with either one, so ride and take your preference.
