  1. Having spent the last week riding on the smallest cog as I couldn't get the rear mech to move, I finally decided to investigate the problem. I suspected a snapped gear cable, but all turned out to be fine. It seems is that the Ergo mechanism in the brake lever is busted as it is simply clicking round. I've just had a look on Wiggle for a replacement system, but there are no replacement systems for my 8-speed cassette, only 9.

Are there any problems in using a 9-speed Ergo/brake lever on a 8-speed cassette?

Is there anywhere I can get just one lever lever/mech or do I have to buy the pair? The lever operating the front mech is fine and seems a waste to buy a pair.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

  2. I just bought Shimano EF29 8 speed levers/shifters for my MTB. They are readily available. I have a set of 3x7 spare now.
