Replace wheels on Mountain Bike

Unless they are completely out of true and wacked, don't expect a new
set of wheels will make it 'ride a lot nicer'. Has a decent bike shop
looked at them? maybe all they need is a good thorough truing and hub
overhaul.

Unless there is something seriously wrong with your current wheels, new wheels
are not going to make a huge difference. If you want a nicer ride, try getting
new tires. That can make a noticeable difference in the ride.

It depends on what the current wheels are and, to a much lesser extent,
what shape they're in. It's best to give more description of the bike
and the parts in question. If this is a bike with steel rims that were
stock, then you don't want those and it would probably be best to buy a
new bike. If they're basic wheels with single-wall aluminum rims, which
is typical of low-end bikes, then no new nicer wheels you get are
really going to ride a *lot* nicer, but will probably be lighter, which
is a good thing. If it's a nicer bike with wheels that aren't having
any kind of problems and the hubs are still in good shape, there's
probably no reason to buy new wheels. Just make sure the hubs get
overhauled regularly, which means now if they've never been.

Tires are a different story. If these are 1.95 knobbies being ridden on
the road, replacing them with something narrower, higher pressure, and
slick will make a genuine big difference.
