Good Luck, Shimano designed the 7700 STI lever NOT to be repairable. How old is the STI lever? If 3
years or less, you should go to your LBS to see if it can be warrantied. Alternatively, there are 2
possible fixes that *might* work:

I use a pair of circlip pliers that were destined for the bin. I filed new 'points' on the end to
fit the locknut. It (the nut) isn't usually very tight but it takes some care to overcome the
locktite. Having said that, I'm on the lookout for the Shimano special tool (TL-ST01) just to speed
up the process. As for the TL-ST02, I've never needed to use it.

I'm just digging into to some 9-speed Ultegra levers and with the wiring it's a much more complex
and delicate operation to pull them down and reassemble, but as I say, "If it was put together, it
can come apart and go back together again. It's just a matter of time".
